Check your books for creepy crawlies
Libraries are glad to get book donations, but when donating please check the following: the book shouldn't have yellow pages or an odor; it should be no more than 5 years old; and check for spiders and other pests. The librarians don't look forward to meeting those creepy crawlies!
Once your donation is made at the back door, the librarians examine the books and divide into three categories. First, the books that will be added to library shelves have to be cataloged, labels printed, covered with durable plastic and finally, shelved in the proper area.
The second choice is for books that the library does not need, usually because they are already on the shelves or not needed for other reasons. These are sent to booksellers who buy them and resell them. Volunteers generally box these for mailing.
The third direction for donated books is to sell them either on the Used Books for Sale shelf in the library hall or in a Friends of the Library Book Fair. If the books are kept for one of these sales, usually held twice a year, they have to be boxed and stored.
