PWP Precinct 4 Patrol members recognized
Sheriff Dale Corbett, Bobby Harvey, Mary Harvey, Ginger Carson, Joe Carson and Gary Ross
A meeting of the Van Zandt County Precinct Watch Program was held at Callender Lake Feb. 9, with 34 members and nine guests attending for the Precinct 4 monthly meeting.
Among the guests attending were representatives of the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s office, Sheriff Dale Corbett, Captain of Patrol & Operations Tim Scharfenberg, Crime Prevention Specialist, Reserve Deputy Anthony Risner. Other guests included guest speaker U.S. Marshal Brandon Corbett, PWA Vice Chair John Murry and Membership Coordinator Sheila Bellamy.
One aspect of the PWP is Precinct Patrols, which provides special training and guidelines for members who want to volunteer to patrol within their precinct. Upon completion of their training, these members provide the Precinct Patrol Coordinator dates and times that they are available to assist.
The Precinct Patrol Coordinator then organizes a two week patrol schedule based on the available volunteers. The patrols are assigned patrol areas based on the most recent crime activity reports for the precinct. Each patrol averages three to four hours covering over 60 miles consuming the volunteer’s time, gas and wear and tear of their personal vehicles.
