Robert (Bob) Haddaway, 80, of Wills Point, was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Baltimore, Md. to Homer and Georgia Owen Haddaway. His family moved to Miami, Fla. when he was a teenager. He graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1955. He married Janice Elizabeth Cottrell July 27, 1957.
The family moved to N. Fort. Myers, Fla. in 1971. He was in the Gunite business, building swimming pools for over 60 years. His company, Haddaway Shotcrete Inc., built thousands of pools throughout Central and Western Florida. He had a unique talent building with concrete. In addition to building quality swimming pools, he constructed concrete buildings of all types. In 1964, he built a giant concrete dinosaur which housed a Sinclair service station. The building, located on Florida Highway 19, became a landmark in that area of Florida. The building still stands today.
In 2005, the Haddaways moved to Wills Point. He worked security at First Monday for 10 years. His hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and nephews at Webb Wild Life Preserve, woodworking and carving unusual walking sticks.
Almost every summer they would venture up into the mountains of North Carolina and camp in their favorite spot by the Little Pigeon River. His favorite trip was traveling in his travel trailer for 47 days and nights to Alaska with his wife, brother in law and sister in law, Larry and Mickie Greer.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Haddaway.
Survivors include his wife of 59 ½ years, Janice; son, Tim Haddaway; daughters, Laurie Haddaway, Robin Touchstone and adopted daughter, Allison Genauer; grandchildren, Matthew Haddaway, Kyle Donnelly and Alix, Kaleigh Losano and husband, Kana, Brianna Touchstone and fiancé, Kolton Landes; great-grandchildren, Lila and Emi Losano, Atticus and Cullen Donnelly; step-grandchildren, Bayden and Bella Holland; and other family and friends.
The family will have a private gathering in his honor at a later date.
