Everett, Yarbrough file for mayor position Filing ends for May 6 election
A final list of candidates for the May 6 city and school elections in Van Zandt County has been released as the filing deadline was Feb. 17. Candidates seeking office are as follows:
City of Canton Candidate filing for two seats, currently held by Connie Odic and Nathan Moore are up for election. Moore and Odic have filed for re-election. The mayor position held by Lou Ann Everett is also up for election on the May 6 ballot. Everett has also filed for re-election. Everett will be challenged by Roy J. Yarbrough.
Each city council seat will be for a two-year term beginning in May 2017.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, to be eligible to run for a council seat, a person must have been a resident of Texas for one year and a resident of Canton for six months prior to the filing date. They must also be 18 years of age and be a registered voter at the time of the election.
Canton ISD
There are two positions open on the Canton ISD Board of Trustees which includes Position 6 held by Josh Wilkerson and Position 7 held by Regan Sumner. Josh Wilkerson has filed for Place 6 and Reagan Sumner has filed for place 7. No other person filed for election.
