1939-2017
Services for Donald Ray “Deacon” Dunn, 77, of Farmers Branch, were held Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bobby Dagnel officiating.
He passed away March 8, 2017, in Plano.
He was born June 26, 1939, in Ben Wheeler to Orban Malcom and Loyce Williams Dunn. He was an entrepreneur, having owned two restaurants and a landscape business. Before retiring, he drove for Albertson’s for 10 years.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hosting fish fries. He loved playing poker, going to Winstar, and spending time with grandchildren and family. Though he was one of the toughest men you’d ever meet, his tender heart for those close to him and his generosity were boundless. He lived life to the fullest and always kept his sense of humor, even as he battled multiple myeloma for the last seven years. He passed away peacefully surrounded by the family he adored.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Sarge Gillespie; and his son, Clint Dunn.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Fowler Dunn of Farmers Branch; daughter and her husband, Cherie and Rick Cowart of Dallas; three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Conner, and Colton; his beloved pet and constant companion, Lacey; brothers and their wives: Larry and Carmaleda Dunn and Howard and Merle Dunn of Canton; sister, Camelia Kay McKinney of Dothan, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
