The Canton Eaglettes got off to a good start in their bid to make a trip to this year’s softball playoffs, registering wins over both Brownsboro and Wills Point to open District 13-4A play.

The Eaglettes began their week March 14, taking on the visiting Brownsboro Bearettes. A four-run outburst in the fourth inning would be a deciding factor as Canton secured a 7-2 win in the contest.

Canton struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second courtesy of two-out RBI doubles by Reagan Busby and Brooke Arnold.

The Eaglettes bounced back from allowing a run in the top of the fourth by plating four runs of their own to seize a 6-1 advantage.

Key plays in the inning included a two-run fielding error by the Brownsboro shortstop, followed by an RBI triple by Kylie Floyd and a subsequent passed ball that allowed Floyd to come home to score.

Canton added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI double by Mattie Tullos that scored Baylee Sanders.
