Mathea Guild hears from Rakestraw
The Mathea Guild met Thursday, March 9 at the American National Bank in Canton.
Donna Rakestraw presented the program and gave the group an informative message on museums in Canton.
Rakestraw has been active in the Main Street program and is now involved in the museums.
According to Rakestraw, “the City of Canton owns the Plaza Museum, located in downtown Canton, on Buffalo Street just south of the new City Hall and the Blackwell House Museum, located by the Van Zandt County Library. If you have not visited these Museums, plan to see the very unique Bell Collection, and many other interesting items at the Plaza Museum. The Blackwell House is the oldest house in Canton, built in 1886. Owned by Henry II and Nannie Blackwell, where they raised their six children. It is decorated the first week in December for Christmas and it also is rented for events.”
