Abandoned valve leaks 1 million gallons of water
Around 7 p.m. Monday, April 3 Canton city officials released information regarding a massive water leak that led to the loss of 1 million gallons of water.
The water loss led to city officials declaring a “code red,” emergency which resulted in Canton Independent School District and local daycares closing the following day.
In a statement from city officials, the leak was in a “remote, inaccessible area.”
“Around 7 p.m. Monday night, an 8-inch water pipe blew in a remote, inaccessible area. More than 1 million gallons of water have been lost. City crews are working to repair the leak.”
Officials also asked the public to use water at a minimum and reminded citizens to “have patience regarding low water pressure or other water related issues.”
City Manager Lonny Cluck reported that the city water lines were “back up and running wide open again,” after the leak was repaired at 10:30 p.m.
