Canton Herald, June 8, 1961: Grand Re-Opening of the Service Café in Canton will be held Saturday, June 17 under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Fincher. The Fincher’s purchased the café affected last Monday from Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rushing of Van. Harvey Fincher, cashier at the First National Bank, will become assistant manager of the service Café after July 15, according to Curtis Fincher. Mr. and Mrs. Fincher are not strangers in the Cafe business in Canton, having operated the Service Café since the war up until they sold out to the Rushings over a year ago. The café close last Monday to be completely remodeled before its re-opening Saturday Mr. Fincher invites the people of Canton to come by Saturday and drink a cup of coffee on the house.
This and That: A change in ownership of L&W Chevrolet Company of Canton is in the offering subject to approval by Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors. More about this when it becomes official.
Henry Milford, butcher at Shinn Super Save, was telling us about the Negro was “learning” his mule to work without eating anything… Milford said that just when the mule learn… He died.
Jim C. January reports that he is strictly in the contracting business now that Free State Lumber Company has purchased his lumberyard on Highway 64… January has moved his office to the building formerly occupied by Kickapoo Car Co. January told us that he’s going to continue with his building program in Canton and on Lake Tawakoni, where he is co-owner of a track of land being developed.
