Lawrence met Mickie on a blind date in Dallas and this moment began a partnership that has survived 50 years. It is a partnership that has seen the best of times and the worst of times and that has withstood the test of time. Mickie was born in Staten Island, NY to Charles Henry and Viola Bachert Cole. She moved to Miami, Fla. at the age of 6 and lived there throughout her teenage years.
She graduated from Miami Edison High School and shortly thereafter ventured to California and then to Dallas. Mickie was an honor student in college. She worked in the accounting field for a number of years, Including nine years with the GISD. She retired from Terrell State Hospital and Lakes Regional MHMR Center.
Lawrence was born in Van Zandt County to John W. and Lorene Strickland Greer. He attended Van Zandt County and Canton schools and graduated from Forest Ave. High School in Dallas. Lawrence graduated from North Texas State University and served in the USAR.
His career was in the banking and financial services industry. He retired from The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Lawrence and Mickie lived in various places in Texas and other states. Thirty years ago, they were fortunate to be able to move to Canton and make their home on land that has been in Lawrence’s family for generations. Lawrence and Mickie were blessed with three children; Donna who lives in Irving, Ed and Katy who live in Frisco, and Justin who died while serving Van Zandt County as an assistant district Attorney. They have one grandchild, Wesley Greer.
The Greer’s plan to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary at a later date on a trip with their children to Mickie’s birthplace in New York.
