Walk across Texas

Canton is the Walking Capital of Texas and Van Zandt is the Walking County of Texas.

Texas A&M AGRILIFE EXTENSION has invited us to walk 832 miles across Texas from border to border. So, let’s “JUST DO IT,” as they say.

Walking across Texas by yourself would take a long time and so it just isn’t going to happen. However, we Van Zanters have a habit of stepping up to difficult challenges.

This 832-mile walk would be a great way to maintain or increase our physical activity level. Wonder how long it takes to walk 832 miles? Just think how many pounds we could lose. We could log miles we ride our bicycles and count things like dancing, gardening and other stuff. Let us pretend we are walking across Texas and call it “mileage equivalent.”

AHHA. The AGRILIFE AGGIES got it all figured out. Here is the deal. We form a team of up to eight, pick a captain and get registered. Your team captain will get help from the County Extension Agent, then we will be on our way. The captain training meeting is at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. at the County Extension office on June 20, 2017. Everything you need to do is online. The Walk Across Texas kickoff is on July 10h. This sounds like a lot of work and time, but really, it’s very simple.
