Celebrating independence at VZC Library
The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day or July 4, has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941.
The tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. This historic document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson.
From 1776 to the present, July 4 has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades, concerts, to more casual family gatherings.
Just remember to pause and give thanks for all those who fought for our independence throughout our country's history.
.Summer Reading will be held Friday, June 30. Kornpop the Clown will appear at the library at 10 a.m. For those afraid of clowns, let me put a human face on Kornpop. He grew up in Breckenridge, now lives in Chandler and is married. He studied at the American Clown Academy and has been a professional clown for over 30 years. Kornpop will be encouraging reading and using the library; and he will make it fun for the children up to age 12.
