Council talks First Monday construction
The Canton City Council discussed approving a building to be constructed on Row I of First Monday Grounds June 20. Assistant City Manager Andy Wolfe said the city was approached by a First Monday vendor who wanted to build a building at the end of Row I.
The proposed building is a 15 x 50 structure and on an engineered slab foundation. The location would be the bottom of Row 1 on the east side, which will back up to Hillcrest Cemetery. Wolfe said he originally had concerns about the building size, regarding the city’s required five-foot setback from the asphalt. Wolfe said that after measuring the space multiple times, it would fit. The building would take up a little over four lots. Two other concerns, Wolfe said, was water and sewer lines, specifically the locations of water lines along with the distance from an existing sewer lines. “The vendor has a permit to sell food concessions, but has not exercised the permit,” according to City Manager Lonny Cluck. Cluck also mentioned that the building had “made or passed all the processes that the prior council put into place.”
Councilman Shawn Stewart said that the building was a way to have contractual revenue versus optional revenue.
