Church’s Chicken demolished 3 years later after closing Property shut down in 2014
Since July 19, 2014, the Church’s Chicken property in Canton has been shut down due to health code violations issued from the Texas Department of State Health Services and the City of Canton building inspector. The business was ordered not to reopen until the building was in compliance. Since that time, the City of Canton encouraged the owner to bring the building up to code or be subjected to fines.
On Aug. 14, 2017, three years later after being shut down, the building was demolished.
Canton Assistant City Manager Andy Wolfe said that the current demolition on the Church’s Chicken property was not ordered by the City of Canton.
“The current demolition of the Church's Chicken property was not ordered by the City of Canton nor did we contract anyone for the job. The contractor, Dan Morrow of Morrow Construction was contracted by a private citizen, who has a pending contract to purchase the property from the current owner, to demolish the building. Morrow has applied for and received his demolition permits and submitted the required asbestos survey to get underway.”
