Comeback bid falls short in 26-21 loss

The Canton Eagles opened play against a familiar foe Sept. 1, taking on the Brownsboro Bears in their season opener for the second consecutive season. A fast start and late defensive stand would prove to be the difference for Brownsboro as the Bears held off a late Canton charge to secure a 26-21 win over the Eagles.

Brownsboro began play on offense Friday night, beginning their first drive of the season at midfield after a solid return to begin play. The Bears wasted little time in showcasing what their offensive game plan against the Eagles would be, leaning heavily on their ground game to pick up yards and keep the clock moving throughout the night.

Three running plays were all that Brownsboro would need to reach the end zone, getting a 19-yard run from Saul Williams, a 12-yard run from Kenneth Woods and a 19-yard touchdown run from Kevon Thompson. Luis Suarez would knock home the extra point, pushing Brownsboro in front 7-0 with 10:37 left to play in the first quarter.

Canton would make its way into Brownsboro territory on its first drive of the season, courtesy of runs by McGwire Martin, Carter Day and Dylan Cox, and completions to Tanner Moore, Cameron Sullivan and Day.
