Compost seminar set for Sept. 21
The Master Gardener Library Series will present a seminar on composting from 10:30 to noon, Sept. 21 at the VZC Library.
“Lou Ellen Bliss and Donna J. Burcham began their composting partnership many years ago in Kaufman in a composting class that certified them as Masters in Composting. Lou Ellen was one of the founders of the Reclamation Station in Canton, a recycling facility. Their partnership then took them to Wood County where they became Master Gardeners. Through the efforts of the class, as well as Tommy Phillips and Agrilife in Van Zandt County, the Free State Master Gardener Association was established here in Van Zandt County. Lou Ellen and Donna love being invited to speak about composting, especially vermi-composting. Children particularly love vermi-composting because they enjoy holding the compost occupants - the worms,” said organizers.
“Learn to create your own compost while having fun and learning to recycle discarded items. Also, although composting and vermi-composting are similar, they are very different in preparation and maintenance,” said organizers.
