Varsity boys win division at Van meet

The Canton Running Eagles stayed close to home for the second consecutive week, competing at the Van Invitational Cross Country Meet Sept. 23.

Canton brought home several top finishes at the meet, including winning first overall in the varsity boys division. Matthew Hook took home Canton’s top individual finish in the varsity boys division, placing third overall with a time of 17:40.

Freshman Kevin Nixon finished sixth in 18:16, Wilson Null seventh in 18:20, Garrett Stapleton 11th in 18:45, Gage Bullard 12th in 19:10, and Trent McCarver 25th in 20:22.

Madeline Null finished second overall for the varsity girls with a blazing time of 12:33, followed by Darby Pruitt with a season-best sixth place finish in 13:32.

For the JV girls, Jade Spencer finished fifth, Eve Dial ninth, Haylee Terry 10th and Shelby Wycough 11th.

The high school Running Eagles will travel to Lindale Oct. 5 before hosting the district meet on Thursday morning, October 12.

Junior High

Junior High Eagles had a great meet as well. The girls finished in first place and the boys were runners-up. Mix Nixon led the way for the girls finishing second in 13:34. Lana Stapleton was fourth in 14:31, Megan McMahan seventh in 15:03, Amari Welch 10th in 15:31, Favor Cantrell 11th in 15:33, Peyton Behrond 15th in 16:13, Judith Delgado 18th in 16:56 and Bella Ramirez 22nd in 19:18.

Matthew Bartley finished sixth in a time of 13:54, Nevan Heddin 14th in 14:49, Rocco Foley 16th in 15:05, Nathan Goodson 23rd in 17:15, and Jax Wilkerson 24th in 17:48.

The junior high runners will be in Tyler for the Grace Invitational Oct. 7 before hosting their district meet Oct. 11.
