Eaglettes earn split versus Wills Point, Rains

The Canton Eaglettes continued district play last week, moving to 1-2 overall through three games with a win over rival Wills Point Sept. 26 and a loss to defending District 13-4A champion Emory Rains Sept. 29.
The Eaglettes and Lady Tigers clashed for the first time this season in Canton with the home team getting off to a fast start and never looking back in a four-set win over Wills Point.
Canton began play red-hot against the Lady Tigers, storming out of the gate to take the first set 25-13. Wills Point continued to struggle against the Eaglettes in the second set, getting outpointed 25-22 to fall into a two-sets-to-none deficit.
The visiting Lady Tigers bounced back in the third, re-establishing their footing by taking the set 25-23.
Canton closed play out in dominant fashion, taking the fourth set by eight points to wrap up the 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17 win over the Lady Tigers.
The Eaglette JV topped Wills Point 25-22, 21-25, 25-23 and the Lady Tiger freshman defeated their Canton counterparts 25-21, 19-25, 25-10.
Rains made the trip to Canton Sept. 29, edging the Eaglettes in a five-set marathon. The Eaglettes claimed each of the first two sets against the Lady Cats, taking the first 26-24 and the second 25-21.
