CHS class of 1957 holds 60th reunion
Celebration was in the air as the Canton High School Class of 1957 gathered at the Van Zandt County Country Club for its 60th year reunion Sept. 23, 2017.
Who could guess those youngsters graduated 60 years ago? With all the laughter, stories, memorabilia, and 1950s music, and even a little jitterbugging, the class of 1957 had a ball!
The 1957 Class President Dan Seale was Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Michael Hackney gave the prayer, and Fred Rasmussen led in sharing memories.
The C – DALE CUMMINGS Band played 1950s-1960s music, and took our emotions from tears of nostalgia to sheer delight as Joe Anna Birdwell did a little vintage jitterbug with Dale himself.
The 1957 Class Valedictorian Juanita Rose Hackney is still making A pluses. She created a memory book with group pictures of the class in first grade, on a senior trip, all class reunions as well as pictures of the eighth-grade ceremony programs and high school. All of these treasures and more Juanita collected in a book given to each classmate. The big surprise was the personalized song “Class of ’57 Had its Dreams” in which Juanita had Dale substitute each classmate’s name and his unique characteristic or accomplishment after graduation. Fred Rasmussen prepared DVDs which showed a collection of each classmate's pictures from fifth grade through 12th grade set to music from the 1950s. He gave a copy of the DVD to each classmate.
