A memorial service for Charles Ray Golden, 89, of Athens, was held Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

Mr. Golden passed away Oct. 15, 2017, in Tyler.

He was born June 24, 1928, in Myrtle Springs to Earl W. Golden and Viola V. King.

He grew up in Myrtle Springs where he attended school. He joined the army and served as cook during the Korean War. He married Aneta Flatt June 24, 1954, and they moved to Dallas. He worked for Halco Fence Co. for several years before retiring to Athens. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting in his spare time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Viola Golden; wife, Aneta Rose Golden; daughter, Rhonda Daniels; and five brothers and sisters, James Golden, Ben Golden, Lillian Miles, Opal Turnage and Lois Mince.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathey and David Barrington; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Curtis Golden, Jack Golden, Neva Collett and Shirley Wimberley.
