Canton’s Null qualifies for State Meet
Cross country runners representing all three 4A schools from Van Zandt County made their way to Grand Prairie Oct. 23 to compete in this year’s Class 4A Region II Cross Country Championships.
Canton took home the top team finish among local schools in the varsity boys division, finishing eighth overall with 282 points while Wills Point finished 20th overall with 479 points in the event. Van had no runners in the varsity boys division.
Individual varsity boys results included:
-Canton: Matthew Hook, 43rd, 17:53.57; Jonathan Bourquin, 48th, 17:58.81; Wilson Null, 52nd, 18:03.69; Kevin Nixon, 68th, 18:16.45; Garrett Stapleton, 100th, 19:02.32; Gage Bullard, 145th, 20:18.39; and Trent McCarver, 149th, 20:22.52
-Wills Point: Cade Davis, 71st, 18:22.25; Christian Williams, 76th, 18:32.98; Aidan Phillips, 113th, 19:19.65; Stetson Malpass, 115th, 19:27.95; Chase Phillips, 150th, 20:23.16; and Gerardo Gonzalez, 173rd, 21:20.44
Wills Point took home the top team finish among local schools in the varsity girls division, finishing 13th overall with 333 points while Van finished 20th overall with 514 points in the event. Additionally, Canton qualified two individual runners to compete at the Regional Meet.

-Van: Macie Reynolds, 11th, 12:14.90; Isabel Romero, 80th, 13:35.81; Grace Park, 154th, 15:29.92; Mariana Romero, 173rd, 17:02.88; and Gwen Mitchell, 175th, 17:04.29.
-Wills Point: Hannah Sauceda, 26th, 12:40.75; Leslie Gonzalez, 83rd, 13:41.27; Brisa Carillo, 91st, 13:54.24; Kaylee King, 105th, 14:07.03; Allison Wolfe, 106th, 14:07.63; Kimberlie Lumsden, 139th, 15:04.75; and Natalee Darst, 169th, 16:37.44
With their finishes, Canton Madeline Null and Van’s Macie Reynolds will compete one final time this season at the 4A UIL State Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock Nov. 4.
