Hope Whitaker 1926-2018

Services for Hope Anderson Whitaker, 91, of Canton, were held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. Interment was in Haven of Memories.
She passed away Jan. 27, 2018 in Wills Point. She was born March 28, 1926 in Canton to Earl John and Chloes Sides Anderson. She grew up in Van Zandt County.
She graduated from Texas Woman's University and began her teaching career in East Texas. She then moved to Long Beach, Calif.
During WWII, she worked with the Defense Department to pay for her college classes. She received her Masters from UCLA and also was a member of the first class of women to receive an Outdoor Education Certification.
She taught for 20 years before retiring. She married Glen Whitaker in 1968 in California. They enjoyed traveling and had a successful real estate business in Orange County, California and later in East Texas when they returned to Canton in 1998. She had a love for wildlife and the outdoors.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl John and Chloes Anderson; husband, Glen Whitaker; and her sister, Earlene Jackson Brock.
She is survived by her nephew, Andy Jackson of Canton; niece, Marla and Don Baugh of Wills Point; brother-in-law, Harmel and Lucy Whitaker of Plano; three sister-in-laws, Ruth Thomas of Canton, Hazel and Bob Pennington of Canton and Janet Whatley of Terrell; and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.
