Eagles move to 4-0 in district play
The Canton Eagles have been unbeatable over the past two district campaigns, improving to a perfect 14-0 in 2017 and 2018 combined with wins over Van and Brownsboro last week.
The Canton Eagles continued to roll through district play in impressive fashion, continuing the dominance they showcased back in 2017 by opening District with a perfect 4-0 record in 2018.
Canton's most recent wins included a 5-3 road win against the rival Van Vandals March 27 and a 10-0 shutout win over the Brownsboro Bears March 29.
The Eagles struggled offensively throughout most of the early innings against Van, trailing the Vandals by margins of 1-0 and 3-1 in the contest before surging with three runs in the sixth inning.
Johnnie Krawietz served as the pitcher of record for the Eagles, allowing five hits and one earned run in a complete game effort. Krawietz struck out 11 Vandal hitters on the evening, while also recording a run scored and a stolen base on offense.
Blayne Clower served as Canton's leading hitter in the contest, going 2/4 overall with a home run, 3 RBI and a run scored. Cameron Sullivan added a pair of singles and a run scored, and Simon Miller added a single and a walk in four trips to the plate.
The Eagles had an easier time of things against Brownsboro March 29, needing just six innings to score a 10-0 win over the Bears. The win over Brownsboro served as Canton's thrid shutout win in just four district games.
Cade Shaw and Simon Miller combined efforts to record the win with Shaw allowing just two hits while striking out seven over five innings and Miller recording four strikeouts in an inning of work.
John Adams nearly hit for the cycle in the win, going 3/3 at the plate with a double, a triple, 4 RBI and two runs scored. Johnnie Krawietz finished play going 2/3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, Blayne Clower went 1/4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Simon Miller went 1/1, Tyler Massey went 1/2 with a run scored and Cameron Sullivan went 1/3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Canton was scheduled to take its perfect 4-0 record to Wills Point April 3 in a showdown with the 3-1 Tigers. The Eagles prevailed over Wills Point in both of their games last season, recording wins of 4-1 and 5-0.
