Kenley Nixon, Tristan Nelson and Emily Watson each qualified to compete at the 4A State Golf Tournament in May after bringing home top finishes at the Region II Meet last week. Nixon carded scores of 79 and 80, Nelson carded scores of 77-73 and Watson carded scores of 83 and 85 to earn places on the All-Region Team.
Three advance to State Golf Tournament
Canton’s Tristan Nelson, pictured with Coach Paige Lloyd, carded scores of 77 and 73 to finish third place individually at the Region II Golf Tournament. With his finish, Nelson qualified to compete at the 4A State Golf Tournament May 14-15.
The Canton boys golf team completed their season April 23-24 at the Region II Golf Tournament at Van Zandt Country Club. After two days of competition, the CHS boys golf team finished in fourth place behind state qualifiers Pleasant Grove, Bullard and Argyle.
Tristan Nelson led the Eagle team with a very impressive two round total of 150 (77-73) to finish as third place overall medalist, a member of the All-Region Team, and a 4A State Tournament qualifier.
Nelson will represent CHS May 14-15 at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls. This will be Tristan's second trip to the 4A State Tournament as he competed with the team last season.
The CHS boys team battled windy and cool conditions April 14 with a team total of 333 and sixth place after round one and improved by an impressive 18 strokes day two to finish the season fourth in Region 2.
Team members and scores included: Kevin Nixon (81-79), Leyton Tidwell (84-84), Clayton Stern (94-79) and Chris Hobbs (91-87).
Varsity Girls
The girls golf team also competed last week in the Region II Golf Tournament, hitting the links at Van Zandt Country Club April 24-25 to conclude an epic week of CHS golf and an excellent season.
After day one, the girls team completed their best round of golf for the season and were positioned in fifth place heading into round two. After another impressive round day two, the girls team concluded the tournament in fifth place with Frisco Lebanon Trail, Mabank and Spring Hill set to represent Region II at the 4A State Tournament.
Kenley Nixon lead the Eaglette team with a season and career-best 79-80 to finish as fifth place on the All-Region Team and as a State Qualifier. Senior golfer Emily Watson had an excellent tournament as well carding an 83-85 to finish as an All-Region Team member and will also represent CHS at the State Golf Tournament. Both girls will represent CHS on May 21-22 at Horseshoe Bay Resort/Slick Rock golf course.
Mila Harrison (99-99) and Kylee Bateman (105-111) also competed for the CHS golf team at the Region II Tournament.
Coach Paige Lloyd noted, “CHS had an excellent Regional Golf Tournament and we are so thrilled to have three golfers representing CHS this season at Horseshoe Bay. We have an excellent group of golfers and students.”
