Wednesday Study Club highlights Korean dance

Drums, fans, beautiful dresses and unusual music were the highlights of the Wednesday Study Club meeting April 25 that featured a program on Korean dance.

The program, presented by club member Chin Boyd, featured members of a Korean dance group where she belongs.

“A table with traditional Korean food was enjoyed by all after the program.  On view also were many interesting and beautiful carvings, jewel boxes, masks, and other objects associated with the Korean culture. Held in the fellowship hall of the Catholic church, the room was transformed into a Korean pavilion. A screen panel of tigers, mountains and clouds formed a lovely setting for the drum and fan dances,” said Study Club members.

Boyd was born in Korea and moved to the United States in 1976.  She became a U.S. citizen in 1979, and stated “I take great pride in being an American citizen and I am very proud of my Korean heritage.”

During the regular business meeting, President Lisa Goode announced the slate of officers for the next season.

The nominees will be confirmed by the membership, and installed into office at the next meeting, at 2 p.m. on May 23.

The meeting will be at the VZC Veterans Memorial, where U.S. Navy Veteran Mike Newberry will present the “History of Veterans Memorial and Bronze Statue.”
