Armistice Flag given by VZC Historical Commission
On Monday, Aug. 20, the Van Zandt County Historical Commission made a special presentation to the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial. Those in attendance included members of the Van Zandt County Historical Commission, County Judge Don Kirkpatrick, County Commissioners Tim West and Virgil Melton Jr. along with representatives from the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial.
Van Zandt County Commissioner Pct. 2 Virgil Melton Jr. opened the presentation. “This is an occasion where the historical commission is going to present the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial with an Armistice Flag. As most of you know, Veterans Day is coming up and November will be the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War II,” said Melton.
Elvis Allen and Ron Carroll with the VZC Historical Commission then presented the VZC Veterans Memorial with the Armistice flag. “The Historical Commission would like to present this Armistice Flag to the VZC Veterans Memorial to be flown especially on the day of the Armistice signing,” said Allen.
“We certainly appreciate the historical commission. You are the most active members and organizations in the State of Texas. I was on it for two or three years and it was very educational. We appreciate what you do, and you do a lot of great work” said Carroll.
Carroll then presented the Historical Commission with a Challenger Coin as a token for all their hard work and commitment to the memorial.
The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial will fly the Armistice Flag at the memorial on Nov. 11, Veterans Day 2018.
