Education forum to be held at Canton Civic Center Sept. 8

The Texas Education Forum hosting six candidates and six public education advocates will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Canton Civic Center located at 800 Flea Market Road.

Candidates and speakers include Pastors for Texas Children founder the Rev. Charles Foster Johnson, candidates Mike Collier for lieutenant governor, Kendall Scudder and Bill Brannon for Senate District 2, House District 6 candidate Neal Katz and Congressional District 4 candidate Catherine Krantz and Congressional District 5 candidate Dan Wood.

All candidates for offices were invited and those listed have confirmed.

Also attending will be Heather Sheffield of Texans Advocating for Meaningful Assessment, Texas Retired Teachers Association Associate Director Brock Gregg, Texas American Federation of Teachers President Louis Malfaro, Texas Parent Political Action Committee’s Ellen Jones, Founder of Texans for Public Education Troy Reynolds and Campaign Finance expert Chris Tackett.

The documentaries “Backpack Full of Cash” and “The Texas Promise” will be shown in the afternoon session. Concessions will be available, and attendees are welcome to bring their own food.

The forum’s goal is to raise awareness on public education issues and property tax reform. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 9. Early voting runs Oct. 22 through Nov. 2.
