Genealogical seminar set for Sept. 22 in Canton
Have you ever wondered how to find your American Indian Heritage, how to find lost female ancestors, or how to organize your research?
These are the topics of the 38th annual Van Zandt County Genealogical Society seminar to be held Saturday, Sept. 22. It might be possible to find your answers at this seminar.
Billie Stone Fogarty, a former history teacher who now instructs genealogists on researching their family history both in the classroom and on the lecture circuit nation-wide, will be the seminar speaker.
Based in Oklahoma City, she has had extensive research experience at the National Archives in Washington, DC, the national library for the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Library of Congress, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and in Oklahoma City at the American Indian Archives under the care of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
She has researched in libraries, courthouses, cemeteries, and archives in many states in the United States as well as Ireland and Wales.
The seminar will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at St. Therese Catholic Church Parish Hall, 885 First Monday Lane (FM 859) in Canton, and will end at 3:30 p.m.
Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. for a continental breakfast. Morning and afternoon snacks and light lunch will be provided. Door prizes will be awarded. The cost of the seminar is $40.00 per person.
Early registration is under way at the VZC Library of Genealogy and Local History, 250 E. Groves St. in Canton (Courthouse Annex).
