CISD honors teachers, approves fund assignment

The Canton ISD School Board met Sept. 17 to recognize teachers of the month and to also report on a fund balance policy. Superintendent Jay Tullos outlined the policy and the assignment of the additional funds.

“At the close of the 2017-’18 fiscal year, it has been determined that an extra $800,000 is to be assigned for construction,” stated Tullos. “Conservative budgeting and spending as well as a district record in average daily attendance were the major driving factors for the increase in the fund balance.”

The total fund balance assigned and committed was $7,900,000. The board took no action on the assignment of the additional funds.

Canton ISD campus teachers of the month were also recognized.

Cindy Lide was recognized as teacher of the month at Canton Elementary. Lide is a first-grade teacher and she attended Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas and received her college degrees from Tyler Junior College and UT-Tyler. Hobbies that she enjoys are playing with grandkids and working in the yard.

Amy Morris is the teacher of the month for Canton Intermediate.  Morris is a third-grade math, science, social studies teacher at Canton Intermediate. She attended Canton High School and received her college degree from UT-Tyler in Tyler. A hobby that she enjoys is reading a good book.

Kristin Willis is a seventh-grade math teacher and teacher of the month at Canton Junior High School. She attended Canton High School and received her college degree from Adam State University in Alamosa, Colo. A hobby that she enjoys is reading.

Heather Morphis is a special education aide in content mastery and teacher of the month at Canton High School. She attended Greenville Christian High School in Greenville and graduated from Criswell College in Dallas. Hobbies that she enjoys are reading, crafting and feeding everyone.

Jaxon Stukey, a first-grade student at Canton Elementary led the Pledge of Allegiance at the Sept. 17 Canton ISD School Board meeting. Gabrielle Fullylove, a second-grade student at Canton Elementary, led the invocation.

The board was also greeted by CISD K-9 officer Kardi upon arriving at the meeting. Kardi and her handler, Officer Heath Burton, were introduced to the board and meeting attendees. Superintendent Jay Tullos remarked, “Kardi has been a big hit on campuses already. You can see her at the front gate of all home football games.”

Canton ISD will hold homecoming parade Monday, Sept 24 in downtown Canton. The Eagles will face off against Mabank in the homecoming game.

The next Canton ISD board meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Oct. 22 in the CISD Administration building.
