The Canton Eaglettes will start their bid for a second consecutive Class 4A playoff berth this week when they open District 14-4A play on the road against the Mabank Lady Panthers Sept. 21.

The Canton Eaglettes took two more steps towards the start of district play last week, splitting matches against Crandall and Rusk.

Canton opened its week at home, tangling with the Crandall Lady Pirates Sept. 11 after posting back-to-back wins over Kaufman and Elkhart. Despite a competitive effort, Crandall would come away with a three-set sweep.

The Lady Pirates jumped out front early, taking the first set 25-20. The Eaglettes upped their play in the second but Crandall managed to keep Canton at bay to edge 25-22. The third and final set would be the most competitive of the night with the Lady Pirates wrapping up a 25-20, 25-22, 28-26 sweep.

In other matched, the Eaglette JV fell 25-16, 25-16 and the freshman team lost 25-20, 25-16.

Canton returned to the court Sept. 14, taking on Rusk for the second time during the 2018 season. Canton and Rusk first met back Aug. 9 during the Palestine Tournament with the Eaglettes securing a 25-18, 25-17 win.

The second meeting also went in favor of Canton with the Eaglettes winning in five sets over Rusk.

Canton is slated to open District 14-4A play Sept. 21 with a match against the Mabank Lady Panthers. The Eaglettes and Lady Panthers met twice during district play last season with Canton scoring victories of 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12 and 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.

Other upcoming dates for the Eaglettes will include back-to-back home dates against Brownsboro Sept. 25 and Athens Sept. 28, and road trips to Van Oct. 2 and Wills Point Oct. 5.
