Marvin Usry, Sr. 1929-2018

Services for Marvin R Usry Sr., 88, of Canton, were held Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Dr. Eddy Johnson, Bro. Brian McWhorter and Bro. Jerry Weems officiating. 

Interment will be at Haven of Memories in Canton.

He passed away Sept. 7, 2018, at his home in Canton. He was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Old Glory to Thomas Oliver Usry and Virginia May Usry Weems.

He was a faithful member of Wildwood Baptist Church for 40 plus years and had a special passion for the Bearing Precious Seed ministry through their church.

He worked in their shop helping print bibles for distribution throughout the world until well into his late 80’s. 

He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea from 1951-1953. He retired from the Carpenter’s Local Chapter 198 and enjoyed many years afterwards working on the family farm with his cattle, and he loved building bird houses. One of his proudest accomplishments in life were his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Earlene Usry: parents, Thomas Oliver Usry and Virginia May Usry Weems, son, Ricky Ray; brother, Dwain Weems; and sister, Margaret Quillan.

He is survived by his daughter, Vera Massey of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Robertson and Doug Hollcroft of Canton; son, Marvin Usry Jr. of Canton; daughter, Gloria J Stephens of Rockwall; sister, Mary Jo Sherrod of Farmersville; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Weems of McKinney; brother, Don and Blanche Weems of Howe; brother and sister-in-law, David and Karen Weems of Frisco; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many other family and friends.

His grandchildren served as pallbearers: Chad Massey, Racheal Green Reese, Bobby Olen Slagle, Jacob Usry, Chris Massey, Alli Green, Ben Usry, and Tyler Robertson.
