Jerry Dickerson 1930-2018
Services for Jerry Dee Dickerson, 88, Grand Saline, were held Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Bartley Funeral Home with Judge Don Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment was in Creagleville Cemetery.
He passed away Sept. 24, 2018, in Grand Saline. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Edgewood to John "Doc" and Mildred Niemyer Dickerson.
He lived in Grand Saline all his life where he graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1946 and served as their Class President and was a member of Sand Flat Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked 37-plus years for Morton Salt Co and worked for R. York Motor Company.
He hauled hay, cut wood, raised cattle and built "pole barns" all over Wood, Van Zandt and Rains County.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 63 years, Doris Jane Land Dickerson; daughter, Becky Kindle; grandson, Jerry Michael Dickerson; brother, Terry Lee Dickerson; and sister, JoAnn Allen.
Survivors include his son, Mark Dickerson and wife, LuAnn, of Grand Saline; brother, Freddy Dickerson and wife, Francis, of Pruitt; sister, Sandra Lou Earnhart of Kaufman; five grandchildren, Sara Engelking, Clint and Rachel Dickerson, Sam and Laura Dickerson, Lance and Angela Kindle and Emmitt and Ally Kindle; six great-grandchildren, Lauren Engelking, Colt Kindle, Jett Kindle, Ella Broce Dickerson, Kori Kindle and Adeline Dickerson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Clint Dickerson, Sam Dickerson, Lance Kindle, Emmitt Kindle, Leroy Wells and Terry Lynn Dickerson.
Honorary pallbearers were William Neal, James Giles, Thomas Kindle, Tommy Erwin and Don Whatley.
