Registration underway for Nov. 6 election
The Nov. 6 General Election will see numerous campaigns come to an end for many state races, including those of United States senator, governor and Texas attorney general. Local voters will recognize races for the US House of Representatives District 5 seat, held by Jeb Hensarling. Hensarling did not file for re-election and the State Senator District 2 seat held by republican Bob Hall.
The General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 9. Early voting will be held Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Nov. 2.
In the United States House of Representatives District 5 race, Republican Lance Gooden will face off against Democratic challenger Dan Wood. State House of Representatives District 2 incumbent Dan Flynn (R) is challenged by Bill Brannon (D). State Senator District 2 incumbent Bob Hall (R) is challenged by Kenneth Scudder (D).
Other races to be decided by Texas voters include the race for United States Senator between Ted Cruz (R), Beto O’Rouke (D) and Neal M. Dikeman (L) ; Texas Governor, Greg Abbott (R), Lupe Valdez (D) and Mark Jay Tippets (L); Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick (R), Mike Collier (D) and Kerry Douglas McKennon (L); Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton (R), Justin Nelson (D), and Michael Ray Harris (L), Comptroller of Public Accounts, Glenn Hegar (R), Joi Chevalier (D) and Ben Sanders (D); other races include Commissioner of the General Land Office, Commissioner of Agriculture, Railroad Commissioner, Justice, Supreme Court, Places 2, 4 and 6, Presiding Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals Places 7 and 8. To be eligible to vote, a person must be at least 18 years old by Election Day, a resident of Texas, and a U.S. citizen.
Persons are not eligible to vote in Texas if they are on parole for a felony conviction or convicted of a felony; or have been legally declared mentally incompetent by a court. If a person has been previously convicted of a felony crime, they may vote in Texas if their voting rights have been restored.
Early voting
Early voting will begin Monday, Oct. 22 and will conclude on Friday, Nov. 2 in the old Canton City Hall building in downtown Canton.
According to the VZC Clerk’s office, the Early Voting hours will be as follows:
Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 26: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 27: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 28: 7 a.m. to noon
Monday, Oct. 29 through Friday, Nov. 2: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
