Varsity boys take title at YWAM Invitational
The Canton varsity boys team took home of Jonathan Bourquin, Matthew Hook, Garrett Stapleton, Trent McCarver, Wilson Null and Kevin Nixon won the team championship at the YWAM Invitational.
The Canton Running Eagles stayed close to home last week, running at the Van Youth With a Mission Invitational Sept. 29.
The varsity boys won the meet and Jonathan Bourquin won first place individually in a time of 17:31. Matthew Hook was third in 18:12, Garrett Stapleton sixth in 18:18, Trent McCarver 14th in 19:08, Wilson Null 15th in 19:13 and Kevin Nixon 16th in 19:17. In the JV boys division, Grant Bass finished third overall and Jax Wilkerson was 11th.
Coach Marta Morgan stated, "These boys ran a great race. I'm so proud of them for their hard work," Coach Morgan.
In the varsity girls division, Madeline Null finished second overall in 13:20 and Darby Pruitt 12th in 14:09. In the JV girls, Lexus Eudy finished first in 12:40 followed by Shelby Wycough in ninth and Jade Spencer 10th.
Said Morgan, "It was a great day to run and these kids did a fantastic job."
The Running Eagles will compete at the Lindale Invitational today (Thursday, Oct. 4) before heading to the district meet Oct. 9.
Junior High
The JH Running Eagles also competed at the Van YWAM Invitational Sept. 29 bringing home lots of hardware.
The girls finished runners-up with Lana Stapleton leading the pack with a fifth place finish in 14:20. Jaylan Mackinnon was ninth in 14:30, Mykah Mebane 12th in 14:54, Georgia Crayton 14th in 14:58, Gracie Wilson 15th in 14:58, Jaycee Bullard 16th in 15:22, Caroline Stern 26th and Lexi McGinnes 45th.
In the boys division, Logan Faglie led the way finishing seventh in 13:21 to help lead the Eagles to a third place finish. Clayton Sudduth was ninth in 13:41, Miguel Arce 15th in 14:01, Rocco Foley 17th in 14:08, Johnny Fleming 25th in 14:28, Landon Faglie 33rd, Jayden Houchin 34th and Sawyer Null 40th.
"They are doing a great job for such a young team. I can't wait to see them run at the district race next week. Great job to everyone," said Coach Katie Kindle.
