Eagles drop opener to Mt. Pleasant
The Justin Burk-era of Canton basketball got underway Nov. 13 as the Eagles hit the road to take on Mount Pleasant in non-district action. The Tigers provided a solid test for Canton, coming off a season in which they went 29-7 overall on their way to an appearance in the Class 5A Regional Semifinals.
Mount Pleasant set the pace early against the Eagles, jumping out to a 20-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Canton, whose roster includes several key players still working their way back into basketball shape after wrapping up football Nov. 9, continued to scuffle by putting up just six points in the second quarter to trail 36-15 entering the half.
The Tigers outpaced Canton 15-7 in the third and 14-13 in the fourth, wrapping up the 30-point victory over the Eagles.
Upcoming games for the Eagles are set to include a trip to Whitehouse Nov. 23-24 to compete at the Tyler Area Basketball Officials Class, a home date against Bullard Nov. 27 and an appearance at the Edgewood Tournament Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
