John Sickel 1952-2018
John Sickel, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away the evening of Nov. 21, 2018, at the age of 66.
He was born on March 1, 1952, at Pax River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, Md. He spent most of his childhood living at China Lake Naval Air Station, later moving to Richardson after his father retired.
He majored in History at the University of Texas in Austin and later attended Law school at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
He began practicing criminal defense and family law in 1982. He served as district attorney in Van Zandt County from 1991-1993. He joined the Texas State Guard as a JAG officer in 2009.
He was a kind, loving, wise man who never met a stranger. He took great joy in becoming a master scuba diver, learning to fly a plane at a young age, watching the Dallas Cowboys and being on the sideline, cheering on which ever grandchild was playing on the field.
He had endless stories and loved to share with anyone that was willing to listen. He had debatable arguments and believed everyone was truly innocent until proven guilty. He believed everyone deserved a second chance.
He loved his family and friends and in turn will greatly be missed. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sue B. Sickel; father, John Sickel Sr.; late wife, Trena Parrish Sickel; brother, J.D. Cecil; sister, Kathy Farberow, and daughter, Morgan Parrish.
He is survived by his wife, Casey Hardin of Canton; stepmother, Trudy Sickel of Houston; cousin, Gates and Pam Moore of Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Andrew Raiden of Lavon, Madison and Wayland Whitlock of Canton, Olivia and James Watson of Eustace, Natalie Holloway and Corey Coates of Pasco, Wash., son- Ryan Sickel of Canton; sisters and brother in laws, Brandy and Charles Allen of Lavon, and Linda and Jim Mills of Littleton, Colo.; and 15 very special grandchildren.
