Canton’s JV Green team finished as runners-up of the LaPoynor Tournament last weekend, going 3-1 overall at the event, improving their season record to 11-1 in the process.

The Canton JV Green basketball team is still a work in progress and a lot of fun to watch. They are an unselfish group of girls that are willing to do whatever it takes for the team to succeed.

The girls finished up this past weekend at the LaPoynor JV Basketball Tournament. They competed well and are finding out that when a challenge presents itself they are able to come together to meet that challenge.

They matched up with Robert E. Lee 9th A team in the first game and it was a battle but the Canton team pulled away in the second half to win the game 40-23.

They advanced to play Cayuga and the game was 20-11 at the half. The Eaglettes put the game away in the second half finishing with a 60-14 win.

That moved them into the semifinals against the host team LaPoynor. Canton was able to win the game and advance to the championship game with a 54-14 victory.

For the second game of the day on Saturday, the championship game against the Robert E Lee JV proved to be a real battle. The girls from Tyler had a good day and proved that speed and height and athleticism would allow them to have the upper hand on this day.

Every time Canton would close the gap Robert E Lee was able to make a run and pull away. Canton dropped their fist game of the season losing 50-28.

The Eaglettes are a fun group that just keeps on playing together and maintaining a winning attitude. They play unselfishly, they move the ball, they find ways to win and are moving in the right direction. We are proud of each one of them and the effort that they give.

Their season record so far is 11 wins and one defeat.

The team is making progress and while not all growth is fun they are an example that teamwork and discipline are still great traits to have.
