JV, freshman teams top Bullard
The Canton basketball program enjoyed a breakout day on the court against Bullard with all three high school teams, the varsity, JV and freshman, all earning wins over the Panthers Nov. 27.
Canton's freshman squad opened the sweep of Bullard in impressive fashion, riding a shut down defensive effort in the second quarter to a 46-28 win over the Panthers.
Four players registered at least two points each in the first quarter, allowing the Eagles to take a 10-8 lead over Bullard.
The game would turn into a rout in the second as Canton outscored the overmatched Panthers 20-2 to extend their lead to 30-10 entering the half. Canton would coast down the stretch, narrowly getting edged 18-16 during the final 16 minutes of play to wrap up the easy 18-point victory.
Leading scorers for the freshman included Grant Yudizky with 10, Jabraylon Pickens with nine, Trey Grier with eight, KD Erskin, Jaden Brown and Trey Collard with four each, Jason Brisbois with three, and Caleb Guy and Colton Whitehead with two each.
JV
The stingy defensive effort would carry into the JV game as the Eagles JV team used strong play at both ends of the court in the third quarter to secure a 48-35 win over the Panthers.
The margin between Canton and Bullard was razor thin throughout the first half with the Eagles taking an 11-10 lead after one quarter of play and a 20-19 lead into the half.
Led by a 10-point third quarter outburst from Jett Baldwin and a suffocating defensive effort, Canton would extend its lead to 34-25 entering the fourth quarter.
Bullard would never seriously threaten Canton's advantage down the stretch, falling 48-35 to the Eagles.
Leading scorers for Canton included Jett Baldwin and Kavin Kellar with 11 points each, Caden Wiley with six, Nick Fenner and Jon Anderson with five points each, Devon Poteet with four, Corbin Holland with three, Chris Cade with two and Kameron Taylor with one.
