This Week in Canton History
CANTON HERALD, July 28, 1949: Funeral services were held Sunday, July 24, for Robert Maxwell Broadnax at the First United Pentecostal Church in Grand Saline. Interment was in the Woodside Cemetery at Grand Saline with Eubank Bros., Canton, conducting. Rev. Uly Waymire of Grand Saline conducted the services. Mr. Boardnax passed away last Saturday at 11:20. He was born Dec. 16, 1861, in Mississippi. On February 29, 1897, he was married to Solissa S. Cox in Dallas. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert and Willie Broadnax; one granddaughter, Madene Seholwinski; two grandsons, C.W. Broadnax and Wayne Broadnax and his brother, George Broadnax. At the meeting of the North East Texas Coordinators Association held in Marshall July 22, A.O. Loughmiller was named a member of the executive committee of the East Texas Visual Aids Library, ETSTC. This library is set up for the college veteran’s vocational schools of northeast Texas and member contributing schools.
Joy Henderson, James Holland and Linda Holland were birthday honorees at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Holland Sunday, July 24, in the Blue Springs community.l office beginning Aug. 6.
