Outgoing Police Chief Mike Echols looks over a “honeydo” list given to him during his retirement reception Aug. 27. Echols retired from the Canton PD after almost 30 years with the department.

Mike Echols was a police office in Lindale, Malakoff, Trinidad and Gun Barrell City before coming to Canton on Feb. 22, 1987.
He moved up the ranks and become chief of the Canton Police Department Oct. 1, 2007.
 
“While chief of police he implemented an honor guard and encouraged technology advances in the department but his most notable achievement is the respect he commands from all those who have worked with him,” Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett said, “ and the integrity and honesty and fairness with which he dealt with all situations, employees, peers and citizens.”
