This week in Canton history...

Re-trial of Richard Murdock set for District Court Monday, Sept. 26:  The Richard Murdock case is slated to come up in Judge A. A. Dawson’s Eighth District Court next Monday, Sept. 26.  Murdock, a former Grand Saline night watchman, is charged with murder without malice in the shooting to death of 19 year old James David Mullican on Main Street in Grand Saline on Dec. 13, 1947.

Three Sisters, Mrs. Olga Aanonson of Dallas, Mrs. Nettie Oldfield of Canton and Mrs. Rosa Weedin of Terrell, have birthdays in September, and were honorees at a dinner at the Terrell City Lake, Sunday,

Sept 11.

Van Zandt county now has 285 young men and women serving in the armed forces, and through the medium of the USO we here at home have an excellent opportunity of seeing to their welfare and maintaining strong ties with them wherever they are.—Joe Hackney, Canton, county chairmen of the USO’s reactivation campaigns, reports.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, at the Little Hope Baptist church for John M. Dunn, who died Sept. 15.  Mr. Dunn, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Dunn was born Nov. 15, 1878, in Ashville Ala.  He had reached the age of 74 years and 10 months at the time of his death. Mr. Dunn was married to the former Kate Martin of Holly Springs. Internment was at Cox Cemetery under the direction of Eubanks Bros.

MISS SIDES TO BE ON DALLAS TV SHOW:  Miss Marvonne Sides daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Sides, has been notified of her acceptance by station KRTV for appearance on their shows.  She will be presented in classical and semi-classical numbers.

ROCK HILL:  Born to Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Watson in a Dallas hospital Sept. 17, a baby boy weighing nine pounds three ounces.  Mrs. Watson will be remembered as Lavern Hamby.
