The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Auxiliary of the United

States Post 9171 of Canton are in the process of delivering the information to local schools and home-schooled youth concerning the group’s yearly essay competition.

The Voice of Democracy Essay contest is open to students in grades nine through 12. This year’s theme is “My Vision for America.”

The Patriot Pen Essay competition is for students grades in grades six through eight. Its theme is “What Freedom Means To Me.”

“This competition gives students the opportunity to compete for a scholarship and voice their opinions about democracy and patriotism,” said local VFW and Auxiliary spokesperson Diane Farmer. “These essays can also help later when they apply at colleges.”
