Garland Brandon turns 95

Garland Brandon celebrated his 95th birthday
last week with a party at Colfax United Methodist
Church.

Garland Brandon recently celebrated his 95th birthday with a gathering at Colfax United Methodist Church Sept. 27.

The theme of the party was “Happy Cotton-Pickin’ Birthday!”

Several party-attendees brought items from their days picking cotton including sacks, scales, ledgers from old gins, cotton bolls, hooks for bales and photos.

Mr. Brandon’s birthday cake was adorned with a mule “like he would have used to work the fields,” said his niece Patricia Zylks of Portland.

While Zylks wasn’t sure if Mr. Brandon was the oldest member of the family, but, she said, she was sure the youngest family member is 7-months old and Mr. Brandon is the oldest member of Colfax UMC.
