Eaglettes top Fairfied at home, 47-38

The Canton Eaglettes improved to 2-0 on the season Nov. 17, turning a fast start on both ends of the court into a hard fought 47-38 win over the Fairfield Lady Eagles.

Canton couldn’t have asked for a much better start in the contest, turning good defense into fast break opportunities and a 17-5 lead after one quarter of play.

Fairfield put the brakes on any attempt by Canton to turn the game into a runaway however, slowing the tempo down to take the second quarter 11-9. Heading into the half, Canton held a 26-16 lead over the Lady Eagles.

The Eaglettes returned the favor to Fairfield in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 12-9 to take their largest lead of the night (38-25) entering the fourth and final quarter.

Fairfield was able to make a mini run against the Canton advantage, but never seriously threatened as the Eaglettes closed out a 47-38 win to stay perfect on the young season.

Senior Lilly Nelson delivered the high point game of the night against Fairfield, putting in 18 points in the win. Courtney Roberts joined Nelson in double figures with 10 points while Taylor Tidwell and Hannah Welty each scored 5, Destiny Johnson and Hannah Manry scored 3 each, Payton Williams scored 2 and Kenley Nixon chipped in 1.

The Eaglettes were scheduled for a road date against Tyler All Saints Nov. 24 before returning home for an in-county battle against the Edgewood Lady Dogs Dec. 1. Canton is scheduled to compete in the Winnsboro Tournament Dec. 3-5, and then return home for a contest against Dallas Life Oak Cliff Dec. 8.
