Tips, volunteers help rescue lost puppy
After being lost in Canton for a week, little Scarlett has been recovered.
Scarlett, an 18-pound, black and tan miniature pincher/daushund mix gave her collar the slip during December’s First Monday Trade Days.
Although the scared little puppy had been sited during the week, she was frightened and could not be caught by her rescuer.
Kim Malone with Paws in the City, a nonprofit rescue group working in Dallas and Sherman, put out a request for volunteers to help surround Miss Scarlett and get her back in custody. Saturday morning, Dec. 12, it worked.
“We have her!” Malone wrote mid-morning. “Thank your readers for all the tips. The trainer was able to narrow down her location from the calls she got. This couldn't have been done without the town’s collective effort. She has a bad hurt foot so glad we got her sooner rather than later.”
Scarlett had been in the foster care of Paws for almost a year, Malone said.
“She has had a hard life,” Malone said. “She's been with a foster for almost a year until we were able to get her into a high-end trainer that was able to help her become less shy after two months. We spent a lot of money on the trainer to help her.”
