CANTON HERALD, Dec. 15, 1949
Funeral services were held for E. C. Weedin Wednesday, Dec.7, at the Norwegian Church in the Wise Community. Services were conducted by Rev. Pitts, assisted by Rev. James V. Gray and W. A. Lansford. Mr. Weedin passed away at the age of 64 years being born Jan. 11, 1855 and passing away Dec. 1949 in Mabank. Death was caused from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was married to Bessie McClary Dec. 22, 1911. They made their home in the Wise community where he had been a lifetime resident. He is survived by his wife and eight daughters.
Following is a list of marriage licenses issued in the office of the County Clerk of Van Zandt County during the month of November. Robert Wayne Jarmon and Mary Lou Ramsey, Roy Leon Coomer and Geneva Ann Johnson, Billy Gene James and Dorothy Lee Funderburk, Elizah Roy Sides and Charlotte Aliene James, Jesse Alonzo Douthit and Betty Laverne Payne, W. T. Woodall and Mrs. Alice Bryant, Joe George Anderson McNeil and Wanda June Furrh; James Merlon Gilchrist and Edna Mizzles; Bascom Coy Stephens and Billie Duease Martin; John Henry Swindell and Betty Jane Watson; Benjamin Price Kennedy and Peggy Delores Davis; Jack Newton Gardner and Mrs. Lula Mae Walker; and John Baston Crawford and Maggie May Culbertson.
Mrs. D. L. Bateman of Wills Point, instructor of the Ceramics Class, will hold open house at her gift ship Thursday afternoon beginning at 2 o’clock. She has extended a cordial invitation to all ladies of Canton to be present.
THE EAGLE CHAT, the Canton High School Section of the Canton Herald: “The Toymaker,” an operetta three acts, will be presented Monday evening, Dec. 19, at 8 o’clock in the school gym. The cast of fifty is composed of students from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades and is directed by Miss Dorothy Bridenthal. Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Woolverton, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Riley are assisting with costumes and staging, and Mrs. Roddie Daniel is supervising dance routines. There will be no admission charges, and the public is cordially invited.
