An 18-wheeler and its contents burned in a crash Feb. 2.
An accident on northbound State Highway 19 Feb. 2, 2016, claimed the life of 19-year-old Ethan Andrew Gould of Athens at approximately 5:50 p.m.
Gould was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger when his truck struck an 18-wheeler driven by John Horine who was southbound on SH 19.
According to a report from Texas Highway Patrol State Trooper Landon Corbett, Gould was driving on the wrong side of the roadway and into the southbound lane when it struck the 18 wheeler.
“Upon impact, the 18 wheeler caught fire due to a ruptured fuel tank, where it sustained extensive burn damage. The 18 wheeler also sustained front left damage. Upon catching fire, the occupants narrowly escaped through the passenger door as the truck tractor became fully involved in flames almost immediately. The Ford Ranger sustained extensive front left damage during the crash,” said Corbett.
Gould was declared deceased on the scene by Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Ronnie Daniell.
The occupants of the 18 wheeler were transported to ETMC in Athens where one passenger received treatment and was released.
