Voting: It’s all about you

With early voting right around the corner, the people of Van Zandt County have some tough decisions ahead of them.

The first decision is to show up and vote.

Sadly, many see voting as a distraction and don’t feel it is worth the effort. Even worse, according to historic voting records this includes several of our candidates running for office. There is no excuse for not being part of the solution to getting Van Zandt County back on track and electing the people into office who have a sincere interest in serving and the skills necessary to lead.

Your vote may just be one vote but you need to ask yourself “why should I let others decide what is best for me when I have a voice and my vote needs to be counted?”

There are countries where people are still fighting for the right to vote. Your vote and more importantly your right to vote should be taken seriously when you really consider what is at stake. If you don't vote, someone else will. Our county government was designed for citizen participation, so if you don't vote - other people are going to make the decisions for you. Elected officials are making decisions for you with your money. You have an opinion on how things should be done in the county and should exercise your educated right to vote for someone you feel best lines up with your beliefs.
