Each year, the National FFA Organization sets aside the week of George Washington’s birthday as National FFA Week.  This is a sign of respect for the father of our country who was also a leader in innovative approaches to farming.

This year, the FFA Week theme was “Amplify.”  Canton FFA members attempted to “Amplify” FFA in a multitude of ways throughout the week.

On Monday, Canton FFA members launched a social media challenge that lasted throughout the week.  On both Instagram and Twitter, students posted the things they liked most about their FFA experience.

On Tuesday, 19 members traveled to the Texas Capitol to participate in FFA Day at the Capitol.  There, they attended workshops on topics ranging from the legislative process to the steps involved in a judicial appeal.  Canton FFA members also had the opportunity to meet with State Representative Dan Flynn.  Mr. Flynn expressed his appreciation for agriculture, as he has a cow/calf operation himself.

On Wednesday, FFA members at Canton Junior High celebrated Wild About FFA Wednesday.  Students and teachers dressed in their wildest blue and gold outfits in honor of the FFA colors.  After school, students competed in Ag Olympics.  Four teams lead by the Greenhand Officers tested their skills in a 2”x4” race, a wheelbarrow race, a show barn obstacle course, and a square bale stacking contest.  Callie’s Fancy Farmers led by Callie Hyde won the wheelbarrow race, while the Hay Balers and Fish Scalers led by Dawson Pruitt won the remaining 3 events.  To wrap up the day, the kids participated in a blue and gold color war. When the blue and gold dust settled, everyone enjoyed refreshments.
