Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial officials have been working on the county’s memorial ground for 10 years.
Vet Cary Hilliard told the Canton City Council last week that the group is close to completeing its plan for the park located at the corner of Hwys. 19 and 243.
The veterans group is raising funds to complete the grounds with a bronze statue of a kneeling soldier.
“We are making great progress and on Nov. 11 we are going to have a ceremony to unveil the statue of the soldier,” Hilliard
said.
The cost to complete the project is around $74,000 “and right now we have $58,000 in our account,” he said. “… We have other fundraising activities in mind and we are going to get to our goal.”
